What were you doing 15 years ago?

15 years ago, it was 2003. I definitely wasn’t writing on a blog then. I was starting my electronics degree and later a networking certificate with Cisco networking classes at South Piedmont Community College in North Carolina and heavy into the Amateur Radio hobby. During that time, the Netscape web browser was a big deal along with Geocities for websites. Writing came much later as a personal interest in physical journals before WordPress existed in my peripheral vision.

Let’s see how much I can remember.

This domain, islandinthenet.com, is about 11 years 10 months old but I’ve been blogging since before 2003. I moved my blog from Blogger.com to Tumblr.com to WordPress.com to Posterous etc. I mapped each one to a domain, khurt.com. That was 14 years 7 months ago.

In 2006 I registered the islandinthenet.com domain and started blogging there. I then moved most of my existing content to a self-hosted WordPress installation. I also registered the domain, khurtwilliams.com, 10 years 6 months ago. I don’t think I renewed it. I also owned the honeysweet.us and williamsinteractive.com domains at one point.

Fifteen years ago, I took a full-time role as Senior Advisor in the Information Security practice of Bristol-Myers Squibb. ng content to a self-hosted WordPress installation. I also registered the domain, khurtwilliams.com, 10 years 6 months ago. I don’t think I renewed it.

Fifteen years ago I was still shooting with a Sony Cybershot, my first digital camera, which I bought in 1999.

Fifteen years ago the trees in my neighbourhood were as short as a pre-schooler.
